First of all we wanted to thank all of you who have e-mailed and called with your concerns. Because of the impact of Hurricane Wilma we are estimating that Maya Tulum will most likely be closed until December 1st, 2005. While Maya Tulum has sustained damage, it is far less than we had anticipated and we are thankful for that. The largest damage that we incurred was to the roofs on the restaurant and large yoga hall. Hurricane Wilma also decided to indiscriminately destroy cabanas #35, #17, #10 and #2. We hope that we will be able to open back up before December 1st, but due to the uncertainty of getting proper materials and the timing of how long it will take to replace the roofs, we will not have a definite re-opening date for a couple of weeks.
It remains our top priority to ensure the safety and well being of all of our guest and associates. Thankfully there were no injuries to any of our employees or guest. All of our guests were evacuated to safety in Merida, Mexico where they were able to access the Merida airport. We have loyal and wonderful employees and even though their jobs are gone for the time being we will create new ones for them in the recovery process. For the past 25 years we have all come together as one large family to recover from hurricanes and we will continue this tradition with Hurricane Wilma. We also welcome any assistance from our Maya Tulum friends in helping us in the recovery process.
We will be in touch with everyone who has reservations from October 24th - December 1st, 2005 so we may assist you in re-booking your visit to Maya Tulum or securing alternative accommodations at either our Pura Vida USA (located in the North Georgia Mountains) or Pura Vida Costa Rica properties. We are lucky to have these other two resorts which are safe and many of our clients already alternate back and forth from all three of our properties. Both of these properties are based on the same philosophy and principles as Maya Tulum and we feel confident that you would enjoy your vacation at either one of them. If you have a reservation during the above mentioned time frame and you have not heard from our Reservations Office by October 26th please call the office at (888) 515-4580 or (770) 483-0238 or reservations@mayatulum.com.
Thank you for your understanding.
